The much-touted One District, One Factory (1D1F) programme introduced by the Akufo-Addo administration to tackle unemployment in the country has kick-started in the Northern Region with the planned construction of a cassava factory in Savelugu-Nanton Municipality.

About four investors have been given the green light to start operations in the municipality.

PT&T Ghana Ltd, which is one of the investors, is expected to soon start the construction of the cassava processing factory.

The CEO of PT&T Ghana Ltd, Prince Mohammed Toufik Tikomah, in an interaction with the media, stated that his outfit is prepared to establish the factory at a cost of GH¢9 million.

He noted that the company will give fertilizers, farming inputs among others to farmers to improve their yield to sustain the factory.

Mr Tikomah revealed that they were warmly received by the chiefs and people of the area and that 10 acres had been allocated to them for the construction of the factory, which is expected to start soon.

“The company will buy the cassava products from farmers in the area and each farmer will subsequently be given a bank account which their money will be paid after their supplies.”

He added that the health of the farmers will also be considered, saying that farmers who would be employed by the company will enjoy periodic health screening to ensure their wellbeing.

The Savelugu-Nanton Municipal Chief Executive Hajia Ayishatu Seidu expressed her joy, saying it will help increase the income of hardworking farmers and create employment for the teeming youth and reduce the high rate of migration to the south.

She said the assembly will work hand-in-hand with the company to ensure the success of the project.

Meanwhile, the chiefs and traditional leaders of the district have pledged to relocate Fulani herdsmen in the area and give them a site for their animals to graze to avoid the destruction of farm lands in the area.
