Padre Pio Rehabilitation Centre Gets Support From Fire Service
Personnel of the Central Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has presented items worth more than at GH¢1,200.00 to the Padre Pio Rehabilitation Centre at Ahotokurom, near Elmina.
The amount was raised from individual contributions by personnel to purchase the items which included used clothing, bottles of soft drinks, sachets of water, biscuits, soaps, detergents and toiletries among others.
Padre Pio Rehabilitation Centre was established in the early 1980s and operates as a family support centre and day care centre for children and young adults with special needs.
It also serves as a home for those who are unable to live independently.
Presenting the items, the Central Regional Commander of the GNFS, Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Fanny Simpson said the donation formed part of the cooperate social responsibilities of the Service.
She explained that the GNFS, despite its core mandate of rendering rescue services and fighting fire; also rendered humanitarian services according to Act 537, hence the reason for the support.
She commended the care givers at the centre for the sacrificial work they were doing and encouraged them to give out their best.
Mr Mark Mantey, Manager of the centre on behalf of the inmates, expressed appreciation to the Service for the gesture and pledged that the items would be used for their intended purpose.
He said the centre strived to ensure that there was a place where the displaced, the disadvantaged and the marginalised had a safe, clean and secure place to live with the opportunity to reintegrate into local community life.
He disclosed that the financial support from benefactors had diminished over the years and appealed to the public to support for the centre to ensure the long term sustainability of its work.
