A fisherman who allegedly slashed the hand of an aluminium fabricator severally with a cutlass following a misunderstanding has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.

Nii Armah Botwe was said to have vented his anger on the complainant Ishmael Adams, who separated him [Nii Armah Botwe] and a witness in the matter during a scuffle.

He was charged with causing harm but pleaded not guilty.

The court presided over by Jane Harriet Akweley Quaye admitted him to bail in the sum of GH¢15,000 with two sureties, who should be gainfully employed.

The matter has been adjourned to January 30th after the complainant Ishmael Adams had given his evidence and was cross-examined.

Prosecuting, Sergeant B. Bemeh said the complainant resides at Mpoase near Dansoman while accused resides at Korle-Gonno all in Accra.

Sergeant Bemeh said on December 24, last year at about 12:00 noon, a misunderstanding ensued between accused and the witness in the case and the complainant went to separate them.

Prosecution said accused became offended and when Adams was leaving the scene he chased him up with a cutlass and inflicted deep cuts on the complainant’s left hand and then took to his heels.

The prosecution said the complainant was rushed to Royal Clinic at Dansoman but was referred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital where he was admitted for three days.

“On December 29, last year, the complainant reported the matter to the Police where he was issued with a Police Medical Report form.

Accused was later arrested where he admitted committing the offence in his investigation caution statement and later led the Police to retrieve the cutlass,” the prosecution said.
