Samira Takes Personal Hygiene Campaign To Schools

Mrs Samira Bawumia, through the Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Project (SEHP) on Friday, donated quantities of hand sanitizers worth thousands of Ghana Cedis to selected schools in the Central Region.

The beneficiary schools were; Mfantsiman Senior High School (SHS), Mfantsipim School, Kwayarko Senior High Technical School, and Gomoa Dewurampong Senior High Technical.

In all, more than 80,000 pieces of the hand sanitizers had been distributed to over 28 second cycle schools across the country, as part of the broader vision to encourage hand washing and personal hygiene among school children.

Mr Kwamena Duncan, the Central Regional Minister who presented the items on behalf of the wife of the Vice President advised students to observe good personal hygiene to avoid contracting diseases.

He encouraged the public to thoroughly clean their hands and make sure that their surroundings were well kept to save children from the outbreak of avoidable diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea, malaria, H1N1 or Swine Flu and others infectious diseases.

He recommended to the public especially students to observe general preventive measures such as coughing etiquette, personal hygiene, hand washing with soap and water, and the regular use of hand sanitizers.

Mr Duncan reiterated government's commitment to improving the well-being of the citizens and urged all to consider the use of hand sanitizers daily.

He urged the students to take advantage of the Free Senior High School (SHS) Policy to further their education to secure a brighter future.

He told the students to concentrate on their education to acquire the requisite knowledge and skills to make meaningful contributions towards the development of the country.

Mr Duncan lauded the efforts of school authorities for their hard work and their contribution towards the improvement of education in the region and urged them to do more.

Mrs Jane Sabina Obeng, the Regional Director of Education who received the items, commended Mrs Bawumia for the gesture.

She rallied the kind support of all citizens and institutions towards the provision of quality education in the region, for the region to assume its rightful place as the citadel of education in Ghana.

Mrs Florence Prah, Headmistress of Kwayarko SHS, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiary schools, thanked the Second Lady for her efforts in improving hygiene and called for increased support for education in the Region especially, deprived schools.

She advised parents to take active interest in the education of their wards so that they would grow to become useful citizens.
