Invest More In The Upbringing Of Your Children--Parents Charged

Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister has called on parents and care givers to invest more time and resources in the upbringing of children.

He said this was necessary because the success of children depended on 'positive involvement' of parents.

Dr. Letsa who was speaking at an interaction with selected school children from across the Region in Hosaid protection of children and mentoring in the form of social interaction was essential in helping them to develop emotional capabilities and charged parents to pay attention to those areas.

Dr Letsa said the Department of children under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection was developing a standard welfare for children under zero to three years to improve the functioning of Ghana's Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Policy.

Mr Israel Akrobortu, Volta Regional Director, Department of Children, said the Regional Minister's interaction with children would encourage their participation in national issues as stated in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

He appealed to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to include child protection as an indicator in assessing the Assemblies to improve efforts at promoting child welfare issues at the local level.

The children, in a message said the neglect of the Regional Children's Park was making it difficult for them to participate in adventurous and recreational activities appropriate for their age group.

They said the existence of a functioning park for children would enable them learn the importance of trust, appropriate risk taking, supportive social interaction while "breaking down fear and isolation."

The children asked that issues of defilement, teenage pregnancy, child marriage, child trafficking and lack of parental care be treated with urgency.
