A new Police station has been inaugurated at Ahenema-Kokobeng in the Atwima-Kwanwoma District, with a call to everybody to be bold to flag up criminals to the security agencies.

Commissioner of Police (COP) Ken Yeboah, the Ashanti Regional Commander, said they should support them with useful leads to aid the arrest of those, who had chosen to live outside the law.

He gave the assurance that the identity of informants would be protected.

The project was funded by Professor Lukemond Owusu-Ansah, President of the Ghana European Economic Chamber.

This brings to 151 the number of police stations in Ashanti and ties in with the drive to bring policing closer to the doorstep of the people.

It would without doubt help to significantly bring down the activities of land guards, illegal miners and armed robbers in the area.

COP Yeboah reminded officers posted to the place to be professional, civil, firm and even-handed in the discharge of their duties.

That, he indicated, was the way to go to win public support, confidence and trust.

He warned that unethical and improper conduct would not be accepted and encouraged the people to report erring officers to the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards (PIPS) for disciplinary action.

Mr. Simon Osei-Mensah, the Regional Minister, said the government would go the extra mile to adequately equip the police to perform - maintain law and order.

He noted that efforts to attract investors to establish in the country to grow the economy - create wealth and jobs for the people would struggle if there was insecurity.

He applauded Prof Owusu-Ansah for the project and said it was a good example for everybody.

Baffour Adjei Fosu Twiteakwa II, the Anantahene, asked the police to respect the human rights of suspects and to treat them with civility and human dignity.

Prof. Owusu-Ansah said the project was his contribution to the crime fight, to make the area safe for the residents.
