Photocopier Operator Held For Copyright Violation

A photocopier operator has run into trouble with the law over copyright violation.

Inusah Haruna has been arrested for allegedly reproducing law textbooks, authored by an Appeal Court Judge, Justice Dennis Dominic Adjei, and seven others.

He was on Wednesday put before a Kumasi Circuit Court charged with reproducing literary work for sale without authority.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence and he was granted bail with three sureties to make his next appearance on February 20.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Philip Jagri told the court presided over by Mrs Lydia Osei Marfo that the accused has been operating a photocopying business at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) campus.

The complainants received information that Haruna had been reproducing law textbooks they had authored for sale and investigations led to his arrest on January 15.

Some of books he had reproduced for sale included 'Land law, practices and conveyancing in Ghana - 2015' written by Justice Adjei, 'Civic procedure - 2011' by Kwame Tetteh, 'Essentials of the Ghana law of evidence and the law of chieftaincy in Ghana - 2014 and 2008' by Justice S.A Brobbey, 'Law of taxation in Ghana - 2017', by Dr. Ben Kumbour, Abdulai Ali Nakyea and William Kofi Wusu Demetia and 'Criminal Law in Ghana -1985,' by P.K. Twumasi.
