Hotel Management Consultant Get Bail For Fraud

A 49 year-old hotel management consultant, who is alleged to have defrauded a gold dealer to the tune of 45,000 Ghana cedis has appeared before the Tarkwa circuit court.

The accused Sander Willensen, pleaded not guilty to the charge of defrauding by false pretense.

The court presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Bart-plange Brew granted him bail in the sum of 50,000 Ghana cedis with two sureties.

He is to re-appear in court on Tuesday February 6, 2018.

The Prosecution led by Chief Inspector Faustina Celestina Anaman, told the court, the complainant, Wilberforce Quarm, is a gold buyer and teacher and resides at Ankonsia in the Western Region while the accused lives at Lapaz New market in Accra.

She said on October 13, last year, at about 12:00 pm, whilst the complainant was at his gold buying shop, the accused together with two persons visited his shop with the pretext of selling him raw gold.

Inspector Anaman said the complainant collected the gold which weighed 240.56 grammes.

According to the Prosecution, the accused sold the gold to the complainant for 45,000 Ghana cedis.

She said when the complainant took the gold to a gold refinery shop in Bogoso for verification, it was said to be metals covered with small quantity of actual gold.

Inspector Anaman said the complainant took the fake gold to the Wasa Akropong police and made a report.

The Prosecution said during investigations Willensen was arrested at Kim hotel located at Lapaz new market.

The accused person in his caution statement admitted that he sold make-believe gold to the complainant, but denied knowledge of the exhibit as being fake.

He later confessed that one Mr Yusif gave it to him to sell for a commission of 10 percent.

Inspector Anaman said the accused person also mentioned the names of Kwaku Frimpong and Sam as his accomplices.
