The newly elected officers of the Western Regional Branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) have been sworn into office to serve a three-year term.

The new officers were sworn in by a Supervising High Court Judge, Justice Edward Amoako Asante, at a ceremony in Takoradi.

They are Mr Moses Dotsey Aklorbortu, Chairman; Mr Kwame Agbeli Mensa, Vice Chariman; Zambaga Rufai Samino, Secretary; and Ms Diana Yaba as Treasurer.

Mr Aklorbortu expressed concern about how the standards in the journalism profession had fallen because people without the basic training were allowed to cover assignments with its resultant poor reportage.

He, therefore, advised journalists to have a specialised area of reporting to enable them to better inform the public.

Justice Asante congratulated the Executive and advised members to gain

training on court reporting so as to report accurately on court proceedings.

He said the Judiciary was ready to assist journalists to clarify court proceedings and urged them to move a step further to cross-check their stories before publishing.
