A man said to have not only sexually assaulted a student but also threatened to harm her was on Monday put before the Nsawam Magistrate Court to answer for his crime.

Bernard Lartey pleaded not guilty and was granted GH¢7,000.00 bail with two sureties to make his next appearance on Friday, January 25.

Police Chief Inspector Alex Cosmos told the court, presided over by Madam Priscilla Sophia Yeboah, that the incident happened on January 03.

The victim, a student living with the elder sister at Coaltar was on her way to Akrade, a nearby community, when she met the accused, a commercial motor rider.

Lartey stopped his motorbike and tried to engage her in a conversation but she told him she was in a hurry.

The prosecution said he then gave his contact number to her, asked that she gave him a call later and she continued her journey.

After walking a few metres away, the accused chased her with his motorbike and when he caught up with her, came down from the motorbike, grabbed and dragged her into the bush.

He pulled a knife and threatened to stab her if she shouted for help as he forcibly inserted his fingers into her vagina.

The prosecution said the victim managed to free herself and run to inform some farmers not far away.

They acted quickly and succeeded to arrest Lartey before he could flee and handed him over to the police in Coaltar.
