Blood Shortage Affecting Smooth Operations Of K’dua Regional Hospital

DAILY GUIDE has gathered that there is an acute shortage in the blood bank of the Koforidua Regional Hospital and that could pose risk to patients who are in need of the live-saving commodity.

The situation, according to the Principal Blood Programme Organiser, Phanuel Mordzifa, is seriously affecting the day to day operations of the hospital and making it difficult to attend to the blood needs of patients.

Mr Mordzifa made the revelation to DAILY GUIDE when members of Baamaiyi Sai Allah, a non-profit organisation, in collaboration with the Office of the Eastern Regional Chief Imam, organised an emergency blood donation exercise at Koforidua-Zongo to stock the blood bank.

“The management team of the Regional Hospital Blood Bank has already expressed worry over the current shortage of blood at the bank since this could put the lives of patients who visit the facility and need blood urgently in danger,'' he indicated.

He said the shortage of blood has compelled the blood bank team to call on people to volunteer donations and the Office of the Eastern Regional Chief Imam heeded to their call with the emergency blood donation exercise.

Mr Mordzifa added that what the Muslim community did will encourage others to donate blood and support the hospital's blood bank.

The Deputy Blood Programme Organiser, Philomena Quayson, also added that deaths could be avoided if the needed blood is made readily available.

She appealed specifically to all youth groups and churches not to turn their backs on such important exercises when they are called to help, so that lives will continue to be saved.
