Attacks on Security Personnel and Security Installations

Feature Article Attacks on Security Personnel and Security Installations
JAN 22, 2018 LISTEN

It is becoming increasingly evident that the Ghana Police Service is not adequately trained nor resourced enough to combat crime in our dear nation.

Policemen get attacked and killed with such ease that it is no longer worth the sacrifice. The attack on Kwabenya Police during which Inspector Ashlivi lost his life is just one too many.

The job of ensuring the security of our nation is simply too overwhelming for the Ghana Police Service.

In the meantime we have thousands of well trained personnel in the Ghana Army, Ghana Air Force, and the Ghana Navy who could be part of a joint crime fighting security force.

If we don't deal with this menace now by bringing the criminals to their feet, lawlessness will completely overtake the nation.

We need to change our modus operandi in fighting crime.

We cannot sit back and wait for the criminals to strike and then say, "we are investigating", "we are on a manhunt for the criminals". No.

The time has come for us to send out security agents to infiltrate the ranks of these ruthless criminals and make them redundant.

The time has come for Ghanaians to be bold in volunteering information on suspects in our midst.

The time has come for us to ensure the security and protection of our informants.

The time has come for Ghanaians to be more security-conscious than ever before.

The time has come for Ghanaians to stop divulging information so freely to strangers.

Have you, my dear reader, noticed how easy it is to gain information from a security guard in somebody's house?

Stranger: "Hi. I am here to see the boss.
Security: He is not home."
Stranger: "When will he be back. He asked me to come and see him."

Security: "He went on a business trip. He will be gone for two weeks. He left yesterday."

Bingo! That's all the information the armed robber needs.

It is time for all of us to sit up!
