Otumfuo Grateful For Support During Mother's Funeral

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has expressed heartfelt appreciation for the strong public support during the funeral of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaah Ampem II.

He held a durbar at his Manhyia Palace to convey his gratefulness and to honor some individuals and institutions for the unique roles played.

They were presented with plaques and certificates for their immeasurable services.

The deceased Queen was the biological mother of the Asantehene and died at the ripe age of 111, after reigning for 42 years.

A 14-day royal final funeral rites was held for her from December 01 - 15, last year.

Among the institutions honored were the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, the Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces, the Regional Police Command, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Prisons Service, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Ghana Health Service and the Ghana Red Cross Society.

The others were Commercial Banks, the Ghana Journalists Association, Ghana News Agency (GNA), Graphic Communications Group, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Multi-media Group, Despite Group and other electronic and print media.

Nana Effah Apenteng, Omanhene of Bompata, who spoke on behalf of the Asantehene, said the King was grateful for the befitting send-off of the deceased Asantehemaa.

He added that it was through individual and collective effort that the royal funeral became a showpiece.

Nana Apenteng singled out for praise the role played by the media as they helped not only to tell the history, expose the traditions and culture of the Asante people, but projected the event to capture national and international attention.

He also said thank you to the Executive, Parliament, Judiciary, the Diplomatic Corps, foreign delegations, Paramount Chiefs in Asanteman and other traditional rulers from across Ghana and Africa.
