Dr Yaw Baah, Secretary General, Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC), says the group is mainstreaming the activities of its youth wing for it to play a pivotal role in trade unionism in Ghana.

Apart from amending statutes and regulations to accommodate the youth in its national council meetings, special programmes have been crafted to empower and further engage the youth in all programmes and activities of Ghana's largest federation of trade unions.

Dr Baah was addressing the National Youth Council meeting of the TUC in Tema which sought to gather and present the sentiments of the youth to the leadership of the TUC for consideration.

The One-day activity was attended by representatives of affiliate unions and youth regional chairpersons of the TUC.

Dr Baah called on the youth leadership to have an order of succession by grooming younger people to take over when they outgrow the youth system.

'We should avoid leadership gaps by grooming younger people to take over because when you are 35, you have certainly outgrown the league. Your experience would be valuable to those behind you,' he said.

He asked them to manage their expectations because, 'If you don't manage your expectations, you will become vulnerable. Be realistic in what you want to achieve. It is alright to dream big as motivational speakers say, but managing expectations is key to success and a dignified life.'

Mr John Doe, Chairman, National Youth Council of TUC, told the Ghana News Agency that appreciating the concerns of the youth would help shape and prepare the TUC for future engagements and struggles.
