Advocates for Social Intervention Ghana (ASIG), a civil society organization, has rallied the nation to give strong backing to anti-corruption campaigner, Martin Amidu, who has been named as the Special Prosecutor.

It said he would need the support of everybody to perform - to more robustly and efficiently carry out his assigned task, so that there would be no motivation for anybody to steal from the state.

This was contained in a press statement signed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Organization, Mr. Emmanuel Arthur, in Kumasi.

ASIG said it found it both unfortunate and misguided the fear publicly expressed by a section of the population that Mr. Amidu would engage in witch-hunting.

The statement added that there could not be any basis for anyone to be afraid of anything when they had not been involved in any corrupt acts.

It reminded Mr. Amidu to be guided by the 'National Pledge' as he undertook the challenging task of investigating and prosecuting those suspected to have engaged in corruption.

The organization expressed total confidence in him and said he was the best man for the job.

It called for the government to go the extra mile to adequately resource the anti-corruption institutions including the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) to function well.

ASIG underlined the need to focus more effort on protecting the public purse.
