INFORMATION AVAILABLE TO this paper suggests that the national telecommunication giant, Ghana Telecom, pays ¢10bn weekly to leading cellular phone company, Spacefon Areeba, leading to a strain on the financial coffers of GT

Whilst officials of the company could not be reached by opreess time to talk on the issue, sources say the huge weekly payouts were a result of an unfair interconnect system.

Spacefon is the leading cellular phine service provider in Ghana with an estimated 1.2 million subscribers compared to Ghana Telecom fixed network's 312,000 lines.

Interestingly, available statistics indicate that for every eleven calls made from GT's fixed network to Spacefon, only one is made from Spacefon Areeba to GT's fixed network.
