JJ Hosts Management Of Water For Rural Africa At His Residence

Management of Water for Rural Africa, a Non-Governmental Organisation, has paid a courtesy call on former President Jerry John Rawlings at his residence in Accra.

The visit was to inform former President Rawlings about the launch of the NGO slated on January 18 and to solicit his advice on the way forward in improving water and sanitation in the country and across the continent.

Former President Rawlings commended the organization for its effort to champion the Sustainable Development Goals six - Clean Water and Sanitation.

He expressed concern about the activities of people who pollute the water bodies saying all are needed to come on board to find a lasting solution to this challenge which has affected the country for many years.

The Former President said water is life and it is imperative for all to protect the water bodies from destruction.

He said the water used in cities for sanitation purposes was sometimes cleaner than the water used in some the rural communities and urged corporate organisations as part of their social responsibilities to come to aid of communities that lack quality water supplies.

Former President Rawlings said there is the need to embark on an educational exercise to educate the citizenry on the dangers of polluting water bodies and the need to ensure personal hygiene.

He pledged his support to the organisation and said he would do everything possible to get on board international partners to realise the objectives and vision of the organisation.

Dr Donald Senanu Agumenu, the President of WRA, said the organisation was established in 2017 and works for the social development of the vulnerable and less developed communities in rural Africa.

He said the organisation designs and implements various projects in the water and sanitation sector with financial and technical support from international donor agencies.

He said their outfit has constructed boreholes in communities of the Akatsi North District in the Volta Region to provide access to clean water and that its vision was to drill 1000 boreholes in the country and 10,000 on the continent.

This, he said, was critical because the absence of water affects all sectors of social development including industrialization, education, health and sanitation.

Togbe Hodzi Dunyo IV, Vice President of Ave Council of chiefs in the Volta Region, has also thrown his weight behind the organization and called for development partners for assistance.

His Royal Majesty Dr Eze Jude Ihenetu, the King of the Igbo Community in Ghana, said Ghana was a blessed land because of its peaceful atmosphere and that the Nigerian Community in Ghana would support them to advance their vision.

He appealed traditional leaders to support the agenda of the NGO to improve the lives of rural communities in the country.
