NDC Akufo-Addo Policy Attempts Good But Has Been Poor On Governance--NDC
JAN 8, 2018 LISTEN

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has lauded president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for “some good attempts” in his first year but scored him low on governance.

NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia said the president’s poor handling of attacks by vigilante groups and allegations of corruption in his government has taken the shine off his works.

Assessing the first year of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the AM Show on the JOYNEWS channel on MultiTV Monday, he said the response of the government on corruption claims has been pure “cover-up.”

Sunday marked the first year president Akufo-Addo took over from the then president John Dramani Mahama after he defeated him in the 2016 general elections.

Security expert Kwesi Aning told Emefa Apawu on Joy FM’s Midday News while the government is committed to the security of this country in words, it is lacking in action.

“The inability of the Ghana Police Service to act in cases of impunity creates a precedence [but] in terms of security there is a lot to be done,” he said.

For Mr Nketia the president’s dismissive approach to corruption allegations in his government smacks of a cover-up.

He cited the alleged payment of money at the presidency as a requirement to see the president and the cash-for seat scandal which rocked the Trades Ministry as examples of the cover-up.
