The Late Alhaji Bature,

The high flying eagle that clattered,
In the entanglements of a dense forest,
Hooked by carefully woven webs,
Having languished in their grips,
You finally humbled to death.
How do we mourn you?
A lion that fought elephants and foxes,
Survived dangerous traps on your tracks,
Overcame them in defiant fashion,
Where has your strength abandoned you?
Where are you going comrade?
To the land of the unknown?

Death indeed is callous,
Inconsiderate, desperate, indiscriminate,
Wicked, deadly and poisonous
To the peaceful soul.
But dear comrade
Fare thee well!

The Al-hajj will miss you,
