St. Nicholas Marks 5-Years Of Quality Education

Emmanuel Odoye, Circuit Supervisor of the Ghana Education Service, Tema, has congratulated the founders of Saint Nicholas Preparatory School at Tema Manhean, for working hard to tackle poverty in the community, through the provision of education.

Mr Odoye admonished parents to support their wards' education, though Saint Nicholas Charity was doing its best to provide free education to the beneficiaries.

He said this during the anniversary celebration of 'Five Years of Quality Education'. The event was held in December, 2017 at the School's premises at Tema Manhean.

'As parents, we have to do our best to provide the basic things that will push our children to a brighter future. Let us guide them with their homework, and if the child will be bright, it begins at home. The child should feel comfortable to learn,' he stated.

Mr Odoye called on the teachers not to rest on their oars, but consistently provide the children with quality and holistic education.

That, he said, would go a long way to properly mould the children as future leaders.

Madam Deborah Eleazar, Co-Founder of Saint Nicholas Preparatory School, thanked the teaching and non-teaching staff for their immense sacrifice over the years, urging them to continue delivering quality education to the children in the community.

She paid homage to the school's Co-Founder, Captain Kappas, for his immense role in the formation of the School.

She said: 'I have to say that none of these would be possible without his extraordinary input, and I'm truly appreciative that I had somebody wonderful beside me in doing this'.

The fifth Anniversary of Saint Nicholas Preparatory School was marked with a naval cadet parade and cultural display by the pupils.

Additionally, honours and awards were bestowed on various individuals and corporations, who, have, over the years, contributed to the school's success.

Saint Nicholas Preparatory School was founded in February 2012, with the aim of breaking the vicious cycle of poverty within the Tema New Town community.

It received, and has continued to receive, immense donations and support from the Tsakos Group of Companies and Maria Tsakos Foundation, in order to make the school run.

Over a five-year period, the school has developed from a two classroom Nursery and Kindergarten to a Primary School, with a 12-classroom annex, library, ICT laboratory, as well as a cadet corps, trained by the Ghana Navy.

The school is run entirely on voluntary donations. The Sailors Society of the United Kingdom (UK) helped with a donation to support the new school building and the Navy Cadet Corps and some students. They were represented at the event by Reverend Yankey.

During the event, a new sponsor, Metka Ghana, a construction firm, offered to assist in building a kitchen and canteen for the School. Additionally, it donated towards the Christmas party for the children.

Tema Manhean is one of the closest towns to the Tema Fishing Harbour, where most of the indigenes lack proper education. And so, for parents in the community, Saint Nicholas Preparatory School has been an oasis of hope.

It has the support and blessing of the Paramount Chief of Tema, Dr Osongaa Nii Adjei Kraku ll, and the Tema Traditional Council.
