Salaga Receives Water Tanker From Ghana Water

Salaga (NR), Jan. 04, GNA-The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has provided a 20,000 litre water tanker to the East Gonja District Assembly to enhance the supply of potable drinking water to the area.

The new tanker valued at US$ 85,000 was presented to mark the first phase of GWCL takeover of the water system in the area from the Community Water to improve access to potable drinking water.

Dr Clifford Abdallah Braimah, Managing Director of the GWCL who made the presentation to East Gonja District Assembly on Wednesday at Salaga, said the takeover would add up to the number of water system GWCL would have in the region.

He said the long term project yet to be implemented would increase the revenue base of the GWCL, improve on the volume of water for distribution to various homes and increase customer strength as well.

Mr Salifu Adam Braimah, Member of Parliament for Salaga South Constituency said the water tanker is a stop gap measure to address the water challenges in the area and assured that government and GWCL would supply Wulensi, Salaga and Bimbilla with potable water.

He said the closure of the Yapei and Bupie Bridges made the Salaga/Makango road the only passage for drivers plying to Tamale and Kumasi, hence the need to keep the road in good shape for easy accessibility.

Mr Mohammed Tamimu, District Chief Executive (DCE) for East Gonja said the availability of the tanker would improve water services in the area and gave the assurance that the GWCL would work effectively and efficiently to improve the supply of water in the area.

The Kpembewura Banbange Ndafoso IV, Paramount Chief of the Kpembe Traditional area lauded government for initiating the 'one district one factory' and the 'One village one dam' as well as planting for food and jobs policies to address the plight of farmers and create jobs for the teeming youth.

He urged government to consider the Gonja land in the creation of new regions, explaining that, the Gonja land had vast landmark, water sources and diverse cultural settlement that would be a development hub.

He said the upgrading of the East Gonja District to a Municipal status would bring development to the door step of the people and assured that his subjects would work to turn the fortunes of the area.
