Salaga Water Delivery System Improved

Government has initiated steps to expand the water delivery system in the East Gonja (Salaga) district of the Northern Region.

As part of the grand scheme, the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has officially taken over management of the Salaga Township water system.

In the meantime, the Ghana Water Company Limited has presented a 20,000 litre water tanker to the East Gonja District Assembly.

Managing Director of the GWCL, Dr. Clifford Braimah at the handing over ceremony, said the intervention formed part of government’s promise to permanently address the water crises there.

As the area has been upgraded to a Municipality status, he said “The measure is part of government’s major plan to boost water supply to Salaga as well as Kpandai, Wulensi and Bimbilla which rely solely on the Community Water and Sanitation Agency to provide them potable water.”

“This is just an intervention while we work on the pipe system. From the river site to the treatment plant, the size of the pipe is not for Salaga. It’s for a very small community, because it’s 4 inches. But from point zero, they started with 4. So it means by the time we get to Salaga, it came to somewhere 2 which is not good at all, and so we have to come and change all the pipelines.”

Dr. Clifford Braimah stressed that, “The plan is that, we will have to erect another overhead tank like the one at Nkwanta around Salaga Secondary in Kpembe, so that it will be able to serve the school and the whole of Kpembe, whilst the one at Nkwanta will serve the Township.

He admonished the residents to show appreciation by paying a token for the water tanker services.

The Salaga East Municipal Chief Executive, Mohammed Tamimu, commended the GWCL for the kind gesture.

He said the Assembly will maintain the vehicle to serve its purpose.
