Some 16 babies who were born at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) on December 25 received hampers as their special Christmas gifts from Mobile Giants MTN.

Parents of the eight boys and eight girls received the special hampers while the adoring babies lied beside them in a seemingly jubilant manner.

Apart from the 16 deliveries recorded at the KATH on Christmas day, two and three were also recorded at the Suntreso and Tafo Government Hospitals respectively.

Parents at the various hospitals expressed delight at the gifts, showering blessings upon the mobile giants.

So enticing were the hampers that parents who gave birth either before or after December 25 wished their babies had come on Christmas day.

The ward In-Charge at the Mother and Baby Unit at KATH Mrs. Margaret Ama Obeng who could also not hide her joy appealed to MTN to make the donations a monthly ritual.

Doing that she noted, would relieve most of the mothers of the burden of not being able to buy all the things needed for the baby.

"Some of them come and cannot buy the things the babies need. Even payment of their hospital bills is a challenge and some of them have had to abscond, so we thank MTN for helping them in this regard". She noted.

For mothers who are unable to pay their bills, Mrs. Obeng appealed to MTN and other benevolent organisations to make financial deposits so it could be used to help them when the need arises.

The Senior Manager in charge of Technical for the Northern Business District of MTN, Mr. Charles Osei Akoto who led the team to make the presentations said 'this is not the first and it will not be the last'.

Mr. Osei Akoto said MTN has chosen Boxing Day of every year to show love to babies born on Christmas day and to give them special welcome unto the earth.

"At MTN we delight in helping people and putting smiles on the faces of not only our clients but the general populace that's why you see us do many things". He stated.

In all, 160 hampers were presented to newborn babies on Christmas day across the country.

The hospitals where the presentations were made include Korle Bu and Tamale Teaching hospitals.
