Birim South Health Insurance registers 17,500 people

Akyem Oda, July 21, GNA- The Birim South Districts Health Insurance Scheme has so far registered 17,500 subscribers and collected an amount of 247 million cedis to start the scheme which takes off August 1, this year.

The Eastern Regional Co-ordinator of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Mr George Kyereme disclosed this during the signing of an agreement between the District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme and Health providers at Akyem Oda on Thursday.

He appealed to opinion leaders and assembly members to get involved in the public education to encourage more people to register to ensure a successful implementation of the scheme. The secretary of the Board of Directors of the scheme, Mr Charles Obeng Darkwa appealed for more logistics, especially means of transport to enhance their work.

Among those present at the ceremony were the District Director of Health Services Dr. Yaw Okyere and the chairman of the Director of the scheme, Very Rev. Kwaku Kwateng.
