Executive Director of Legal Assistance Network, Mrs. Irene Aborchie-Nyahe has called on the Ghana Police Service to show bit scene of professionalism in the course of arresting suspects.

Mrs. Aborchie-Nyahe said this on the United Nations Human Right day when dressing Ghana United Associations (GUNA) members at SSNIT Conference Hall Awudome-Accra subject the United Nations Human Right Day which is observed every year on the 10th of December.

According to her, the day is a special one the right to human is very important and has, therefore, called on the Ghana Police Service to act accordingly when it comes to arresting Ghanaians special suspects.

She stressed that police are the first point of call when it comes to peace and there is the need to exhibit very high professionalism and as well as encourage the police to treat Ghanaians with high respect when it comes to arresting people who we assume are suspects.

According to her the produces we have in Ghana as far as arrest is concern needs much to be desired when a crime is committed whiles the policeman is not at the scene of the crime he would have to investigate to find out who has committed the crime it is a process you can only arrest if you see the person in the act.

“Now don’t see the person in the act and you have rumors of stories of suspects at that stage the person is a suspect now if you don’t find anything connecting the suspect to the crime you don’t have to arrest,” she said.

She stated that in Ghana, the best thing to do when one is reported at the police station is for the the police to invite the person since accused persons may sometimes need permission from employers before he or she can honour the police invite.

"It is the right of citizens to do that but mostly the police will rather force the suspect to report at the station violating on their right, we are going to speak against that act," she assured.

She added these and many other factors are the reasons United Nations observed human right day, It is a day set aside by the United Nations to commemorate the day on which in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the universal declaration of Human Rights.

In the year 1950, the Assembly passed the Assembly passed the resolution 423(v), inviting all states and interested organizations like GUNA to observe the day. That is why are here today to talk on this violation of rights, she added
