God Is God Foundation Unveiled

God is God Foundation (GIG), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), established five years ago, and caring for needy widows and orphans, was at the weekend inaugurated in Accra, with a call on Ghanaians to do more in caring for the vulnerable and underprivileged.

Rev. Dr Mensah, Founder and General Overseer of Christ Whitehouse Chapel International and fellow of the Institute of Certified Economists in Ghana (ICEG), together with Madam Mercy Blanc Aidoo, founder of the NGO cut the tape at a ceremony held at the Accra Technical Training Centre, to officially outdoor the charitable organisation.

Rev Dr Mensah said Ghana is endowed with abundant natural, human and material resources, and it is very necessary that all the human resources are tapped and utilised for the nation to accelerate its growth and development and achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The MDGs were the eight international development goals for the year 2015 that had been established following the Millennium Summit of the United Nations in 2000, and the adoption of the United Nations Millennium Declaration.

All 191 United Nations member states at that time, and at least 22 international organizations, committed to help achieve the following Millennium Development Goals by 2015. The goals are: to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger; to achieve universal primary education; to promote gender equality and empower women; to reduce child mortality; to improve maternal health; to combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases; to ensure environmental sustainability; and to develop a global partnership for development.

Rev Dr Mensah called on Ghanaians to push for the passage of the Affirmative Action Bill and also ensure the appointment of 30 per cent of women in public office as chief executives in the district, municipal and metropolitan assemblies.

'For us to develop as a nation, we have to move on two legs,' implying the need to employ the services of both men and women, the vulnerable and the physically challenged in nation building efforts.

He said countries such as Rwanda, Germany and the United Kingdom have made strides in their development because they tapped into their human resources, and took care of the disadvantaged and the underprivileged, including needy women and children, stressing that, initiatives like that of God is God Foundation need the support of all.

'It is our religious duty to support the needy. We have to support the God is God Foundation to support the needy at the places where we ourselves cannot go,' Rev Dr Mensah said.

Madam Blanc Aidoo underscored the need to give to the needy and work towards their upliftment, saying,' there is more blessing in giving than in receiving.'

'I was touched by the plight of the needy widows and children as I went throughout the country' she said, and appealed for both material and financial support for the needy.
