The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has renewed its call on residents in the Metropolis to be conscious of the sanitation condition in their surroundings.

Mohammed Adjei Sowah, Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), who made the call at a Town Hall Meeting at Osu, also expressed concern about the indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drains and other unapproved areas.

He said maintaining a clean, safe and pleasant physical environment in human settlements was every one's business and that the AMA needed to infuse new ideas that would address the ever increasing sanitation problems.

He said the vision of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo requires a sea of change in policy, action plans and a city cleansing approach, to enforcement mechanisms and attitudinal change of the people.

'It is sad to observe that lack of commitment, apathy and sense of duty still lingers on among the people at this time and age, whilst lives and properties are being lost through flooding,' he said.

The Accra MCE said the Assembly had taken into consideration, a more mechanized and modernized revenue collection for 2018, adding that, '' let me use this opportunity to admonish residents and the business community to honour their tax obligations''.

Mr Ishmael Ashitey, Greater Accra Regional Minister, who chaired the meeting, said Government was prepared to put in place effective mechanism that would factor the people's concerns in the decision making process regarding resource distribution and service delivery.

'We wish to take this opportunity to encourage our members, social partners and other stakeholders to support the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) towards the realization of set targets,' he said.

Mr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, Minister of Information, who graced the occasion, said Government was working at eliminating poverty, diseases and illiteracy by 2020, adding that, on the free Senior High School (SHS), ''we are aware there is going to be pressure on the facilities due to the admission of about 100,000 students hooked to the policy.

''But the solution is not to run away from the problems but solve it,' he said, and urged the people to disregard all lies associated with the policy.
