57 Students Graduate From School Of Hotel, Restaurant  Tourism Management

The School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management (SHORT MGT) has held a graduation ceremony for 57 students who completed their studies successfully with a charge on the students to exhibit professional standard on the field.

Mr Goyimwole Enukomeko Kpodo, President of the School, who made the call urged the graduating students to go out and transform the hospitality industry with the training and skills they have acquired.

He said the hospitality and tourism industry was a fast growing industry, which contributed immensely to the economy of Ghana, adding that those who worked in the industry must have good attitude and sense of professionalism.

Mr Enukomeko noted that "as a nation we have a serious problem when it comes to service delivery. So our students as expected to go and transform the industry by providing excellent services in the industry.

'At the end Ghana will be the winner because a lot of people will be willing to come to Ghana, so that we become number one hospitality nation in the world".

He said that good attitude and discipline were virtues that the graduating students must consider as key to a career success.

He said good human relation was a necessary ingredient in their field of work.

"As you are going out, make sure the people you work with go and come back again. Because in the industry we rely more on old clients than new ones because the old ones will go and talk to others when you give good services," he added.

Mr Rabbi Kohain Halevi, Chief Executive Officer of Panafest Foundation, admonished the graduating students to be hardworking as they went to the job market.

He said it was time for the students to show the substance they received by practicalising the theories they learnt in school.

The ceremony witnessed 20 students graduating with Diploma in Hospitality Management, 20 with Certificate in Hospitality Management, one student in Decoration with 16 graduands in In-Service Training.

Two of the students were foreign students from Central Africa Republic and Cote d'Ivoire.

Mr Darlington Ankamah emerged as the overall best student whilst Mr Borketey Borquaye Micheal was adjudged the best Diploma student.

Mr Ayittey Micheal also won the best Certificate student with Mr Galley Atsu John and Miss Agmortey Patience together were awarded as the most hardworking students.

SHORT MGT was established in 1997 as a professional hospitality training school and was granted authorization by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) in 2011 to establish a tertiary institution. The school which has produced over 4,000 students since its establishment is affiliated with Stratford University and Chicago State University (USA).
