Workshop For Headteachers Of The East Akim Municipality

The Asiakwa location of the SOS Childrens Villages, (SOSCV) Ghana under the 'Quality Education Now' (QEN) project has collaborated with the East Akim Municipal Education Office to organize a five-day workshop for head teachers.

The participants were drawn from the various basic and primary schools within the municipality to build their capacity to play their monitoring and supervisory roles effectively within their respective schools.

They were taken through topics such as; guidance and counselling functions in elementary education, educational policies, school supervision, learning dialogues, proposal writing, leadership styles and lesson notes planning and presentation.

Addressing them Madam Elizabeth Amankwah, the Municipal Education Director said illegal mining, also known as 'Galamsey' has become a thing of the past and therefore urged the heads to closely monitor the attitude of teachers to promote effective teaching and learning in the schools.

She reiterated that it had become necessary for teachers and their heads to rise up and meet the challenging needs of education especially at the basic level and mentioned the need for participants to be conversant with some educational policies and endeavour to work at it to better teaching and learning in their schools.

Mr Samuel Abrokwah Boye, the Project Coordinator of QEN- Asiakwa location was hopeful the programme would go a long way to improve on the skills of the head teachers of the beneficiary schools for quality education delivery.

He hinted that the organisation would organise more of such educative training programmes for teachers and non- teaching staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to promote quality education delivery in the Greater Accra Metropolis and beyond.

The SOS Children's Villages Ghana is a non- governmental Organization with over 40 years of experience in care and support of orphans and vulnerable children.
