15 Senior Citizens In Birim North District Honoured

The Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) under the umbrella of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has honoured 15 senior citizens who have served the district in promoting quality education.

In a short ceremony, Mr. Augustine Ekor, the Chairman of COHBS praised them for their hard work, commitment and team work they demonstrated during their years of service in their respective public schools.

He said, despite the challenges they went through during their period of service, they were able to endure it till date and entreated the other teachers to emulate their disciplinary attitude to enable them succeed in life.

He urged them to venture into agriculture to enable them fend for themselves and their families to better their standard of living and advised them to desist from indecent behaviours such as alcoholism and fornication in order to stay strong and healthy.

He also entreated them to do regular checkups and exercise frequently to make them active.

Mr Raymond Nana Damptey, the District Chief Executive (DCE) applauded the GES staff for the strides it was making in promoting education in the district and urged them to do more even if obstacles occur.

He said government had put in place measures to enhance effective education delivery in the district and the country at large and entreated them to help execute it, but warned against levies on parents.

He hinted that the Assembly would be providing furniture for every public school in the district next academic year to help promote effective teaching and learning.

Nana Osei Agyemang Prempeh II, Chief of Hweakwae said communities in the district would continue to liaise with the Newmont Akyem Mine to construct more school structures in their catchment areas to promote quality education and that plans were far advanced to construct teachers' village in the district to enable teachers have access to accommodation at affordable prices.

He therefore entreated the upcoming teachers to upgrade themselves to prepare them adequately for the job market.

Mr. Joseph Bebaako, the District Director of the GES commended COHBS for initiating the programme and urged other GES institutions to emulate the gesture.
