The Asamankese Ghana branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Eastern Region has been upgraded to a Stake status under the Africa West Area.

Formerly the branch was Asamankese District under the Ghana Accra West Mission, but now under the Africa West Area, which include; Ghana, Congo, Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia and Gambia.

Mr Richard Adu, the President of the First Counsellor for the Stake Presidency told the Ghana News Agency that the creation of the Stake enhanced activities among the branches and the wards of the church.

He urged members of the church to abide by the ethics of Christianity and that of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in order to be exalted.

The President also urged them to resist all kinds of temptation to ensure spiritual growth exercised everywhere.

'May we follow the Prince of peace who literally showed the way for us to follow, For by doing so, we will survive these turbulent times. His divine plan can save us from the dangers that surround us from every side.'

He said the Asamankese has 10 units comprising four branches and six wards with a total membership of 2,377.

Elder Marcus B. Nash, a member of the Quorum of the Seventy of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints urged members to be law-abiding as they observed their covenant to God.

He said for members and leaders of the church to win God's favour, they needed to keep their baptismal, priesthood and temple covenant as well as obeying the laws of the country as good citizens.

Mr Solomon Agyeman Tsenadu, the President of the Asamankese Ghana Stake urged the members to strive hard to set good ambition for themselves because great achievements were not attained on silver platter.

The church was founded by Joseph Smith in April 6, 1830 in Western New York and they believe in pre-earthly existence with God and their mortal lives are a test to be able to rejoin him in the after life.
