Over 600 school children of Mpoasei Methodist Primary School and Kindergarten in Dansoman were thrown into a state of joy and merrymaking with lots of food, drinks and good music on their vacation day sponsored by MTN Ghana Foundation.

Aside the food and drinks, the Foundation also presented teaching and learning aids such as pens, pencils, crayons, erasers, sharpeners, rulers, story books, textbooks and A4 sheets to management of the school.

The Education Portfolio Advisor of MTN Ghana Foundation, Ebenezer Terkper, said the program is an annual event which seeks to socialize with school kids particular those in the deprived communities across the country.

“Every year we make sure we go to deprived communities and then show them the MTN Love. We make sure the kids enjoy a hot meal, take them through learning activities and finally share food and drinks among them,” he stated.

Mr. Terkper indicated that Christmas season always call for love adding that the Foundation is using the vacation day to express the MTN love to the kids by sharing food and learning materials that will make them happy.”

“This year is different because it is our 10th Anniversary celebration as a Foundation and therefore we have decided to replicate this in four business districts. Yesterday we were at the Sekondi School for the Deaf, today we are here at Mpoasei Bethesda Methodist ‘1’ Pimary School and tomorrow we will be going to Mampong School for the Deaf and then Zuarungu in the Upper East Region next week,” he noted.

The Headmistress of Mpoasei Methodist Primary and Kindergarten in Dansoman, Jessie Victoria Armah said MTN came knocking at their doors with a request to assist the school celebrate the kids mostly at a time they were thinking of how to entertain the kids in this festive period.

According to her, the items donated would be used to support children’s whose parents are not able to provide them with such learning materials.

“Some of the story books are sometimes difficult to come by and we can see that MTN has been able to provide us with some to enable the kids test their reading and learning skills,” the Headmistress stated.

She noted the challenges confronting the school indicating the inadequate furniture and dilapidated toilet facility which is affecting teaching and learning in the school.

The Headmistress expressed deep worry about the limited seats in the toilet facility compelling school children to form queues when class is in session forcing many to miss their periods in class.

Jessie Victoria Armah is appealing to government and corporate institutions to help address the situation.
