AIDS Still A Threat Despite Low-Key Campaign--HIV Coordinator
14.12.2017 LISTEN

The HIV/AIDS Coordinator for the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern Region, Madam Rose Nani, has expressed worry about the low level of awareness creation on HIV/AIDS in recent times despite its continued existence and spread.

She said the media has been very helpful in the early years when the virus broke out but have slacked these days.

According to the Coordinator, the unavailability of funds to embark on media education and advertisement has become a major challenge to increase awareness to fight the spread of the disease.

"Lots of people ask if HIV still exist. They ask because we are unable to push media awareness due to no fund allocation towards that" She said.

This came up during a radio discussion with GBC Sunrise FM’s Mohammed Zunurene on “Ade Akye Abia” Morning Show

She advised Ghanaians to test and know their HIV status so as to benefit from early intervention, should there be the need.

World AIDS Day is celebrated each year on 1st December. The Theme for this year’s global celebration was "The Right to Health" while that of Ghana was "Know Your Status: Seek Early Treatment".
