The Energy Commission of Ghana has introduced a refrigerating app to check energy efficient refrigerators imported into the country.

The app will help the commission to weed out substandard refrigerating appliances that are smuggled into the country.

“with this new technology, we expect consumers to verify whether a refrigerator they intend to buy meets Ghana’s energy efficiency standards and has been labelled appropriately.

“we urge the public to rather patronize brand new appliance in shops for their own benefit and to serve energy”, he said.

Mr. Kofi Agyarko further revealed the commission's intention to effect arrest in person’s who fake stickers and labels and sell substandard refrigerator appliance to unsuspecting consumers.

He said the commission will soon confiscate uncertified refrigerators scattered around the country by importers.

Some importers who raised concerns during the meeting applauded the commission for the new innovation and pledge to cooperate with the energy commission in its efforts.

The app was part of two smartphone applications ‘Freezers Automatic Timer Switcher’ and ‘Refrigerator and Certified Electricians’ – launched two months ago by the commission.

The app is available for download on Android smartphones and will be punished on IOS and Windows soon.
