EDDT Angry At Police And Vigilante Group

General News EDDT Angry At Police And Vigilante Group
DEC 14, 2017 LISTEN

The East Dadekotopong Development Trust [EDDT] has described the actions of the Ghana Police to invade and seize its offices as unlawful, unjustifiable and irresponsible

The Trust therefore called on the Police hierarchy to as a matter of urgency conduct an investigation into the unlawful action and bring the perpetrators to book if found culpable.

Addressing newsmen in Accra on Tuesday, the EDDT Executive Secretary, Nii Odoi Yemo, expressed his outfit’s discontent at the invasion and forceful seizure of their offices as well as eviction of its entire staff by some land guards and vigilante groups on November 16th 2017, without a court order.

The act which according to him was purported to have been carried out under the La Traditional Council was not only barbaric and ridiculous but also unlawful which amounts to contempt of court, considering the pending litigations in the High and Appeal Courts respectively.

The Executive Secretary cautioned the public to be wary of fraudsters and avoid buying lands under the EDDT’s jurisdiction from any vigilante or land guard group purporting to be a trustee or doing business on behalf of the EDDT.

He called on all those who have acquired landed properties or own houses with relevant documents from his outfit to remain calm and not give in to any threat or blackmail from the vigilantes and land guards hired by the La Traditional Council.

He disclosed that they have taken prompt steps by filing a certiorari application at the High Court to quash a fraudulent order obtained by some persons from an inferior court while the cases are pending at both the High and Appeal Courts respectively.

The EDDT, Nii Odoi Yemo explained was not established by the La Traditional Council nor has the Council any legitimate right to deal with the lands under the jurisdiction of the Trust. Again, the Council has no mandate to appoint the eight members Board of Trustees of the Trust.

Nii Odoi Yemo further explained that the East Dadekotopong Development Trust [EDDT] was established as a result of a court order in 2002 and was vested with the mandate of administering over the lands situated behind the Ghana International Trade Fair Authority.

He however pointed out that the press briefing was not in reaction to the Defense Minister’s announcement that some individuals including former President Mahama have encroached and built on lands belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces.
