Refugee Children Receive Medical Screening

The Ansu Ababio Paediatric Centre of the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital has undertaken a free medical screening exercise for over 200 children at the Fetentaa Refugee Camp, in the Berekum Municipality of Brong-Ahafo Region.

The children comprised babies, nursery, kindergarten and primary school pupils and Junior High School students drawn from the Saint Matthew's Basic School situated at the Camp.

They were screened by the Centre's medical team comprising nurses, physician and dental assistants on different cases including eye and ear diseases, nutritional and neurological problems.

Briefing the media after the exercise, Dr. Anthony Dontoh, the Senior House Officer of the Hospital, said the exercise was part of the Centre's biannual screening and donation programme, adding the Camp was selected after a random sampling had been conducted.

He said drugs like blood tonics, oral rehydration salt (ORS), paracetamol, multivite and cough syrups were freely dispensed to the parents.

The team, in addition, donated other items including; second hand clothing, 10 crates of eggs, one box of mineral water, 20 bottles of detergents, a maxi bag of washing powder, footwear, two gallons of cooking oil, a maxi bag of granulated sugar, five bags of rice, and three boxes of sardine to the children and their parents.

Dr Dontoh expressed delight for the enthusiasm and joy of the refugees because of the exercise and hoped that it would serve as a good platform to improve collaboration between the Hospital and the Camp.

Mr. Emmanuel Ansu Twum, Head of Field Unit, United Nations High Commission for Refugee (UNHCR), Sunyani, thanked the team for the kind gesture and asked for a divine blessing for them.
