A former Deputy National Women Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic over the weekend decided to throw a party for street children at the Catholic Action For Street Children (CAS) at Korlebu Junction, Accra.

In all about 300 street children who normally seek refuge from the CAS house were given a special treat to a buffet of different kinds of food and drinks after which some items were donated to them by the team.

The feast with the street children was part of the activities organized by the NPP stalwart and her team to mark the birthday celebration of her personal aide and president of Becky’s Babes – a pro NPP women group – Miss Miriam Duah popularly referred to as Mimi whose Birthday fell on Ghana’s election day, the 7th December.

Kate Gyamfua who is also seeking to become the party’s next women’s organizer admonished Ghanaians to show compassion to the needy and the poor. She stated that God bless people for them to be blessings to others and pleaded with Ghanaians to factor the orphans and the street children into their planning this year as they plan for the yuletide.

On her part, Mimi expressed thanks to God for adding another year to her age. She expressed appreciation to her boss and the Kate Gyamfua campaign team for agreeing to fete the street children. She also reiterated her boss’ stance pleading with Ghanaians to show compassion to the poor and especially the street children.

The Catholic Action for Street Children (CAS) is a day care center which picks up street children and prepares them for skills training. It was established in October 1992 and has so far given back life to many street children with some of the kids picked from the street now attending various universities both here in Ghana and abroad.

The center also occasionally goes to the street to educate many other people in the street who have not been to the center before.

The Director of the house, Bro. Jos Van Dinther when asked how they pick up the people said they only take care of people who come to the house. He added that they have no accommodation space for the people and so they only feed them and put them into schools and other skills training apprenticeship but do not house them adding that if they had enough resources they would have housed them to prevent them from going back onto the street and would have picked more others from the street.

Bro. Dinther added that the house is laced with several challenges and pleaded with philanthropists, NGOs and the government to come to their aid.
