Nurses Warned Against Social Media Abuse

Nurses have been asked to desist from talking unending on their phones or chatting away on social media whilst on duty.

'I entreat you to desist from talking unending on your mobile phones or chatting away on whatsapp whilst on duty,' Brigadier General A.K. Dzisi, Director, Financial Controller of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), said in Accra.

He said 'once you are in the ward, your patients should be your top most priority and they should have your full attention'.

Brig. Gen. Dzisi urged nurses to treat patients with outmost respect and dignity by applying the professional ethics they have learned during their training.

He was speaking at the matriculation of 170 student nurses and graduation of 171 nurses and midwives at the 37 Military Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Accra.

Brig. Gen. Dzisi said it is crucial for nurses to also value confidentiality and individuality of their patients with regards to visiting the health facilities.

He urged them to continue to pursue higher education for future job opportunities.

'As you go into the world I entreat you to approach every facet of your life with diligence, hard work, selflessness and sacrifice,' he said.

To the fresh men and women, Brig. Gen. Dzisi said they should count themselves fortunate to have obtained their training at the college that churns out well trained nurses and midwives in the country.

He urged them to take their training serious and abide by the laws of the college.

Colonel Sabina Owusu Akorful, Principal of the 37 Military Nursing and Midwifery Training College, appealed to the public to come to the aid of the school.

He said the school needed computers and hostel facilities to facilitate teaching and learning.

Additionally, she said the school was also saddled with water challenges.

She was happy with the excellent performance of students over the years and lauded government for restoring the allowances for nurses, which she said has raised the morale of students.

The overall best graduands for Registered General Nursing Diploma (15) went to Vordzogbe Victor Sunday and Dodoo Harriet Naa Quarnor.

Damesi Israel Wisdom and Quao Mary Akosua of the Registered General Nursing Diploma (16) were adjudged overall best and second best graduand respectively.

For Registered Nursing Diploma (17) Asumang Sandra Dzama was adjudged the over best graduand whilst Odenter Jennifer was the second best graduand.

Also for Registered Midwifery Diploma (2), Maniasah Mabel Enyonam and Bentil-Bentum Jemima were adjudged the Overall Best Graduand and second best graduand respectively.
