$105,307 School Block Commissioned

Konkon, a farming community in the Ga South municipality of Accra, has received help from Tzuxing Foundation (TX) to resolve various infrastructure challenges.

The help came with the commissioning of a $105,307 kindergarten and Junior High School blocks to help rectify various challenges including inadequate classrooms, classes under trees and absenteeism.

The project includes two resting rooms, two classrooms, teachers room equipped with a store room and two washrooms for the kindergarten department.

The Junior High block also comes with three classrooms, a staff common and a store room.

The facility is expected to benefit over 450 students in the school.

Addressing a durbar held as part of the event, Madam She-Vera Anzagira, the Regional Manager for the Greater Accra/ Volta Regional programme of the Actionaid Ghana (AAG), said TX funded the project which was chosen from four proposals presented by AAG.

She said from the Kindergarten to primary six, palm fronds were used as a classroom blocks and whenever it rained, lessons came to an abrupt end.

"Fortunately, TX came to our aid, through our proposal, with the ground breaking starting in July," she said.

Madam Freda Miriklis, the International Development Advisor of TX Foundation, said the foundation agreed to support the school because it recognises the important role education plays in the development of the society.

"It is important we create an environment that will help the youth develop their physical and mental activities as well as businesses, and partnership is the way to go," she said.

Madam Miriklis said the project was also a demonstration of Tx Foundation's continued interest in providing improved access to education.

She urged the students to make good use of the facility by attending with seriousness to their studies.

Mr Prince Osei-Agyekum, the Head of Fundraising at AAG, urged teachers, parents and community members to maintain and sustain the facility.

Madam Adenike Adeyanju- Osadolor, the Africa Coordinator for TX Foundation, thanked AAG for identifying the needy community for them to be provided with assistance.

Mr Victor Kofi Nyavor, the Circuit Supervisor of the Ashalaja Ghana Education Service, thanked TX and AAG for helping the community and the education sector with the structures, furniture and learning materials for the kindergarten block.

Alhaji Nii Teiko Tagoe, the Headmaster of the school, expressed gratitude to TX and AAG for the classroom blocks.

He said the provision of the new classrooms would enhance studies in the community.
