" Over 2000 Students Are Benefiting From Free SHS In Gomoa East"- DCE

Over 2000 students are currently enjoying government's Free SHS policy in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region, the DCE, Hon. Benjamin Kojo Otoo has announced.

The students according to him are currently schooling at the T. I Ahmadiyya Senior High School at Gomoa Potsin, Gomoa Gyaman Community Day Senior High School and Fetteman Senior High School at Gomoa Fetteh.

" But for timely intervention of the Free SHS policy, most of these students would be siitting at home for lack of monies to further their education at the second cycle level.

This social intervention has given relief to parents by way of payment of various forms of fees for their wards. Members of Parliament, DCEs, Assembly Members, Chiefs and Opinion Leaders have all been relief as well.

Pressure from parents and guardians requestioning for financial support to send their wards to Senior High Schools has been been reduced drastically thanks to His Excellency President Akuffo Addo and the NPP government"

Hon. Benjamin Kojo Otoo disclosed this at a Town Hall Meeting organized by the Gomoa East District Assembly in collaboration with the Information Service Department under the theme 'Bringing Democracy to Your Doorsteps'.

The Meeting which attracted people from all walks of lives was to showcase the achievement of the District Assembly and the NPP government over the past eleven month.

Chiefs, Heads of Decentralized Departments, Assembly Members, Opinion Leaders, Civil Society Groups among others attended the meeting.

The DCE further note that the Assembly was doing all it could to ensure conducive environment for effective teaching and learning in the schools.

" Even though there are challenges in the various schools, we won't rest on our oars but to provide the needed infrastructure. The Assembly has recently supply 500 mono desks and chairs to the Gomoa Gyaman Community Day Senior High School to ease congestion in the classrooms.

Plans are far advance for construction of modern kitchen for the two day schools at Fetteh and Gomoa Gyaman"

The war on landguards is going on speedily. Some 70 of them have been arrested and are being processed for court. I will like to appeal to all citizenry to assist the District Security Council to eradicate this ant-isocial canker"

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central Constituency, Hon. Naana Eyiah Quansah said she has been able to assist community self-help projects with building materials to facilitate their early completion.

" Bags of cement and trips of sand has been supplied to Gomoa Aboso, Asebu, Oguaakrom, Brofoyedur, Abonyi and Gomoa Manso communitiesas well as some basic schools for renovation.

By the grace of God, I have been able to assist some ladies to earn skill training in the areas of hairdressing and seamtress so that they becomes financially independent.

Hon. Kojo Asemanyi, Member is Parliament for Gomoa East on his part announced that he has been able to assist in the provision of potable drinking water to areas that henderto struggle for water.

He noted that new police stations has been opened for operation to ensure peace and security in the constituency in the wake landguards activities.

The Member of Parliament further stated that he has assisted some health facilities in his constituency with hospital equipment to enhance health delivery.

The Gomoa East District Director of Education, Mr. Robert Mensah told the participants that he has ordered all Heads of Basic Schools in the District to refine Ghc 100. 00 they collected from final year students as registration fee to write BECE in 2018.

He explained that since His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo led government has absorbed the fees for the exams, those monies ought to refine to the parents.

Mr. Mensah disclosed that the needed furniture and learning materials for the three Senior High had improved significantly adding that the students were enjoying conducive school environment.

On his part, the Gomoa East District Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Stephen Tie-Toh said 5 new CHIPS compound have been built for Gomoa Manso, Gomoa Adzientam, Gomoa Akraman, Gomoa Nsuem and Gomoa Asebu to enable the people access health faculties at their door steps.

Dr. Stephen Tie-Toh also disclosed that new maternity wards have been built for Gomoa Obuasi and Gomoa Nyanyano adding that the facilities become possible through President Akuffo Addo led NPP government in the space of eleven month in office.

" I must say that the District Directorate of the Ghana Health Service continue to be grateful to the government for prompt payment of monies meant for service providers of the National Health Insurance Authority.

Honorable Naana Eyiah Quansah has been supportive. She recently donated drugs and medical equipment and delivery beds among others to the Gomoa Obuasi Health Center.

Malaria has been the most common disease recorded across the facilities in the district. Intensive public health education is ongoing sensetising the people on the need for prevention of the disease.

"As I speak, 13, 000 pieces of mosquito nets has been supplied to 3, 220 pregnant women, 4, 577 to children and 14, 050 to all the school children across the district".

The Health Director lamented cover lack of Doctors for the public health facilities saying it had increased the work load of the directorate.

The Central Regional Director of the Information Service Department, Mr. Offei encouraged Ghanaians to pay their taxes regurally to enable government implement its policies.
