Kwahu South Undertakes Water Projects

Mr. Emmanuel Ofori-Attah, the Kwahu South District Chief Executive, has said the Assembly would soon provide water systems for the people of Obo and its environs to curb water scarcity in the area.

He said the project would be financed with the District Assembly's Common Fund (DACF) and was expected to commence in the early part of next year.

Mr Ofori-Attah was speaking at a Town Hall Meeting to sensitise the people on government's policies at Kwahu Tafo in the Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region.

He said there was the need to get people at the local level to participate effectively in the planning and implementation of development projects and programmes, hence the meeting.

Mr Ofori-Attah said there were a number of activities such as the preparation of Medium Term Development Plan (MTDP), Fee Fixing Resolution and the formulation of by-laws that the Assembly undertook, which requires participation by stakeholders in the community.

He said government was committed to improving the living standards of Ghanaians hence the abolition of nuisance taxes, enhancing of the School Feeding Programme, and restoring nurses and teachers allowances among other things.

Mr Ofori-Attah said with regards to the Government's One District One Factory programme, the District was likely to be part of the few districts to benefit from the programme come 2018.

He said the Assembly would soon be constructing teachers' quarters at Nkyenekyene to help resolve the accommodation challenges facing teachers who were posted to the area.

He noted that all the necessary measures had been put in place to expand and rehabilitate the Kwahu Praso and Mpraeso market centers to enhance socio-economic activities in the community and the District as a whole.

To promote quality education in the District Mr Ofori-Attah said the Assembly had constructed and handed over a three-unit classroom block at Kwarfour Ntemro Electoral Area.

The Assembly had put in place all the necessary contributions to enhance the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme in the District by constructing more dormitories for second cycle institutions.

He, therefore, appealed to all to pay their taxes to help the Government to execute its development plans for the country.

Mr Seth Frimpong, the Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, entreated students, especially those in junior high school, to take their education seriously to enable them to enjoy the Free SHS policy.

He appealed to the public to take active part in those flagship programmes to enable the Government to deliver on his promise. GNA
