Adopt 'Ghana First Approach' To Governance----UCC Pro Vice Advocates

The Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has called for the adoption of what he calls a Ghana first approach to the treatment of development issues in the country.

Prof. George Kwaku Toku Oduro says the country appears divided into political, ethnic and tribal lines; a situation he believes has overshadowed the national interest.

Speaking to Joy News’ Richard Kwadwo Nyarko after a Carol Service organised at UCC, Prof Toku Oduro called for a unity of purpose as the country strives to improve the lot of Ghanaians.

“Let’s place Ghana first above everything. We all must live as one people but we have allowed, politics, tribal, ethnic interest and other sectional interest to override national interest. The truth has been sacrificed,” he argued.

He called for a careful scrutiny of government’s policies to ensure that the country derives the best of such policies.

“Government has so many policies it has set out to implement. We need to support government to implement these policies for the benefit of all of us. Let us subject them to careful scrutiny to ensure we get the best out of them as a country,” he added.

He advised students who are about leaving for the Christmas break to celebrate the X’mas with the greatest of moderation to avert casualties.

Chairman of the Chaplaincy Council at the University Rev. Prof. Seth Asare Danso implored on Ghanaians to share with one another to depict the season of Christmas.

“We need to stay in peace as people shoe destiny is knitted together. Christmas is about giving. Let’s share with people around. Share with everybody. Share everything you have to receive God’s blessings,” he advised.
