Sunyani Technical University Holds 2nd Matriculation

Sunyani Technical University has hold its 2nd matriculation ceremony after the school was converted from Polytechnic to the university status on Thursday 30th November, 2017 at the school's auditorium

Speaking to Techiman based Winners 98.5 FM, the Vice Chancellor of the university, professor engineer Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah stressed that after the school was converted to university through the Technical university act 2016 act 922, this year's student enrollment has been a very appreciable as compared to last year's.

'The school was able to admit 2226 students comprising of 1320 males and 906 females as compared to last year's enrollment which stood at 1532 has overwhelmed with a 45% increment ' he said.

He used the occasion to commend the hard working staffs and the faculties for the energies spent to ensuring such an overwhelming increased number of students in the school and tasked them not to rest on their horse until such a tremendous increment is sustained and improved upon in the future.

Professor engineer Kwadwo Adinkra made a disclosure that the school has submitted over twenty new B. Tech programs to the National accreditation Board(NAB) and the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE) to give clearance and accreditation respectively so as to give green light to enable them run such programs and added that he is optimistic that if the 4-year B. Tech programs are commenced, it will put the university on the level plane field with other universities across the globe.

He lamented over a worrying situation compounding the financial challenges about the school which is non payments of utility bills

"The University owes the Volta River Authority (VRA) and Ghana Water Company (GWC) millions of Ghana cedis and as a result the university is compelled from time to time to use part of its Internally Generated Fund (IGF) to settle part of its indebtedness to prevent students agitation that has the potential to distracting academic works" he stated

He therefore made a passionate appeal to the Government to step in to clear the debt to give respite to the university administration to focus more on its mandate to give university students a well equipped training

He admonished the fresh men and women of the university not to indulge in illicit drugs, stealing, alcoholism, sexual misconduct and other social vices

"The university would forever protect students who are respectful, law abiding and discipline" he stressed

Finally ,he urged the students to take their studies seriously and make good use of the facilities available to them

"Note that you came with a purpose so be a good friend to your books, study hard to come out with flying colours for your families to be proud of you" he said.
