Let's Make NHIS Policy Cost-Effective---Rev. Nyarko
01.12.2017 LISTEN

Reverend Sampson Agyir Nyarko, the Effutu Awutu Senya Area Manager of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), has called on service providers and NHIS clients to collaborate to make the Policy cost-effective.

He said the two major stakeholders of the Scheme could easily do this by avoiding all negative practices that increased the utilisation rate among NHIS subscribers within the area.

Rev. Nyarko made the call when he addressed a stakeholders' meeting at Winneba after durbars in some communities to educate the people on the NHIS.

He said through collaborative efforts from environmental health workers, municipal assembly members, religious organisations, chiefs and leaders of formidable groups, intensive public education could be organised to reduce malaria and other diseases, which contribute to the high utilisation rate of NHIS subscribers in the area.

Rev Nyarko expressed the hope that the NHIS stakeholders would accept the challenge and do everything possible to supplement efforts being made by the management of the scheme to sustain the Policy.

Mr Emerson Arhin, the Effutu Municipal Director of Health Services, warned beneficiaries against using the treated mosquito nets, which was supplied to them free, from fencing their backyard gardens and other purposes.

Mr Arhin said the nets were meant to protect the users against mosquito bites to reduce malaria infections and not for any agricultural activities.

He charged health workers in charge of distribution of treated mosquito nets to properly educate beneficiaries on how to use the nets.

Earlier, Mr Richard Odonkor, Public Relations Officer and Mr Isaac Ashalley, Accountant of the Scheme, warned subscribers of poor handling and misapplication of the NHIS membership cards.
