Ho, July 13, GNA - The chiefs and people of the Nkwanta-North Constituency have appealed to President to confer a district status on the new constituency in view of the large size of the present Nkwanta District. " It will be a very great achievement..." "This we hope His Excellency the President will do for us in the not too distant future to improve the socio-economic development of the area".

This was contained in an address read on behalf of Nana Konja IV, Chief of Kpassa, when a delegation of chiefs and opinion leaders from the constituency called on the Mr Kofi Dzamesi, the Volta Regional Minister and his deputy, Mr Joseph Kwaku Nayan, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency. They expressed their gratitude to President J.A. Kufuor for creating the Nkwanta-North Constituency. "This shows how committed the NPP government is in developing the area".

Nana Konja said the President's campaign promise to extend electricity supply to the area is being fulfilled. Mr Dzamesi said it is gratifying that at least the people of the constituency were appreciative of what the government was doing for the region and promised that for as long as they continued to support the government it would continue to reciprocate their gesture.

Mr Dzamesi said one way in which they would show their support is to maintain a peaceful atmosphere in order not to create any anxious moments for the government. He said unless they maintained the peace the government would not be able to tackle their development problems as constructively as it should be. Mr Dzamesi said the request for a separate district would be communicated to the President and that several factors would be taken into consideration before a decision would be taken.
