The alleged inhumane treatment meted out to Esinam by her pregnant stepmother has come to the notice of Modern Women of Wisdom International.

Although there is no consensus about what is it that Esinam had done, the five year old girl was tortured by her stepmother at Odumprala close to Amasaman in the Greater Accra region.

Esinam was allegedly dumped in a bowl of hot water and locked up in a room for three weeks to avoid the public eye.

As a humanitarian Organization that supports children in crisis, we found the evil act perpetuated against little Esinam unpleasant and disgusting.

The harsh reality is that, we wake up to hear maltreatment stories in some part of our great, freedom-loving country, where all men are created free and equal.

When it comes to issues of child abuse, this particular case sits within not just a criminal law structure or social justice structure but within violence against children which is a completely human rights issue as well.

We therefore urge the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to step up its education of human rights to curb child abuse in our beloved country.

Again, we humbly call on the Ghana Police service to immediately arrest the pregnant stepmother behind the abuse of Esinam to serve as a deterrent to others.

Also, we are calling on the Ministry of Gender, children and social protection to champion a change in the social norm that says it is okay to punish children through harsh means.

Long Live Ghana,
Long Live Women,
Long Live MWOW.
