Akyem Swedru, July 11, GNA - A 34-year-old sprayer, Kwesi Mensah, who defiled his 11-year-old class four stepdaughter at Bunso in the West Akyem district was on Monday remanded in prison custody by the Akim Swedru Circuit court.

The accused pleaded guilty to a charge of defilement but sentence was deferred to July 28.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector John Padmore Arthur told the court, presided over by Mr Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwah that on June 28, this year, the mother of the victim traveled and left her in the care of the stepfather.

He said at about 2130 hours of that same day, while the victim was asleep, Mensah went and lie by her side pounced on her, undressed her and forcibly had sex with her, ignoring her screen for help. According to Chief Inspector Arthur, the victim who bled profusely after the act reported her ordeal to her mother on her return the following day.

The Prosecutor said the mother then reported the case to the Asamankese Police where the case was later referred to the Akim Oda branch of the Women and Juvenile Unit.
