African Glorious Chorale, an award-winning choral group, has held its maiden edition of 'Celebrating Our Heroes', a musical concert in honour of Reverend Joseph Kwame Ayete Labi, the Vicar General Orthodox Archdiocese of Accra.

The musical concert dubbed: 'Celebrating Our Heroes' aims to celebrate individuals for their invaluable contributions to the growth of their communities, church and the development of the nation.

The event held at the Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Cathedral in Accra was graced by distinguished personalities from the diplomatic community, Members of Parliament, Representatives from the office of the President and great Ghanaian Composers like Dr Kenn Kafui and Dr Newlove Annan.

The Choir uplifted the souls of the guests with melodious Christian hymns, African choral compositions by Dr Newlove Annan and also a medley of highlife tunes, which elicited ecstatic applause and cheers after every performance.

Mr Prince Oduro Yeboah, the Assistant Administrator of African Glorious Chorale, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said 'Celebrating Our Heroes' project was to celebrate the living heroes for their meticulous services while they were alive, instead of waiting to honour them posthumously.

He said it was more rewarding to recognize and celebrate excellence in one's lifetime.

'People who distinguish themselves deserve to be appreciated by society. The criterion is always how well or how professional you were in the discharge of your responsibilities,' he said.

Rev. Ayete Labi born on July 15, 1950, is a well noted Orthodox Christian Priest and the Vicar General Orthodox Archdiocese of Accra.

He has run series of training workshop travelling from parish to parish to preach about Orthodoxy as well as translating almost all the Orthodox liturgy services into the local language, Twi.

In 1988, he was honoured with the title of Grand Protopresbyter, the first to be given in the whole of Africa, by the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Theodoros II, during the 25th anniversary of Orthodoxy in Ghana.

Mr Yeboah said Rev. Ayete Labi had helped the choir in diverse ways towards its growth as well acknowledging the Church's effort in running a vocational school to the benefit of the public.

A citation was presented to Rev. Ayete Labi for his hard work, commitment and consistency in supporting the choir and positively impacting lives with his ministry.

Rev. Ayete Labi receiving the citation expressed gratitude for the gesture and honour bestowed on him.
