Municipal and District Chief Executives in UER sworn in

Bolgatanga, July 7, GNA - Municipal and District Chief Executives in the Upper East Region were on Thursday sworn into office and given appointment letters to start work.

Mr. Boniface Gambila, Regional Minister who swore seven of the eight Chief Executives in Bolgatanga called on them to be committed, dedicated and selfless in carrying out their responsibilities.

He said the Region was faced with problems of poverty and illiteracy and needed all available human resources to meet the challenges.

"I would urge all of you as Chief Executives of our Assemblies to identify the skilled and capable persons in your Assemblies and engage them in the various projects being undertaken in our communities", he added.

He advised them to use their Assemblies Common Fund judiciously for development ventures and to desist from discriminating the sitting of projects but to place them where they were needed most.

Mr Gambila asked the Chief Executives to adhere to the government's call for Zero Tolerance for Corruption, saying, "we must show a clean sheet in terms of corruption when the roll is called. Let us therefore, see you as role models in our Districts which require that you don't indulge in malpractices that can tarnish your own reputation and that of the government".

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Mr Abdul-Rahman gumah, Bawku West Municipal Chief Executive, thanked the President, Mr John Agyekum Kufuor for the confidence he had in them saying they would live up to expectation.

He said they would work in collaboration with the Chiefs and Assembly Members to develop their areas. The Chief Executives sworn in were, Mr Isaac Insoh Amoah, Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Aoyi Emmanuel Chegeweh, Kassena-Nankana District Chief Executive, Mr Moses Abaare Appiah, Bawku West and Mr Thomas Alonsi, Bulisa District.

Others were Mr Sebastian Tibil Bisnab, Talensi/Nabdam and Francis Asampana Akurugu, Bongo District.

The numerous spectators burst into laughter and clapped when the Chief Executives handed over their appointment letters to their wives for safe keeping.
