If the "Unity Walk" works well, the NDC should go for it

Feature Article If the Unity Walk works well, the NDC should go for it
NOV 7, 2017 LISTEN

Folks, utterances made by ex-President Mahama in assessing the drift of governance under Akufo-Addo has opened a can of worms and exacted the kind of reaction that makes the NPP camp come across as amateurish.

Mahama jabbed the NPP administration from several angles, mocking it for its awkwardness in implementing policies and for its abject incompetence thus far.

He spoke on a range of issues at Cape Coast at the end of the NDC's version of "Unity Walk" there. And, boy, did he step on toes!!!

His comments were apt and pointed. They hit hard at the inadequacies of the NPP administration, which Dr. Bawumia chose to react to, making utterances that ended up deepening his negative public posturing instead of adding value to him as the Vice President. No wonder that he is perceived as still stuck in the electioneering campaign mode instead of doing things and talking as the Vice President of Ghana should do.

He is still running the fool's errand, his official purview having been usurped surreptitiously by Basket Mouth, Yaw Osafo-Marfo, the chief hatchet man of the Akyim Mafia. In effect, Dr. Bawumia's reaction to ex-President Mahama's observations don't cut butter.

Dr. Bawumia shouldn't forget that ex-President Mahama rose through the ranks to become the fount of authority/power in Ghana---something that Dr. Bawumia hasn't got the knack for and cannot accomplish in the camp of the ethnocentric NPP cabal. (Ayisi-Boateng's foolishness suggests more than what has been teased out thus far. Discerning minds know better what the red flags popping up imply.)

Many years ago, John Mahama was where Dr. Bawumia is today; and from the template already being woven, Dr. Bawumia should have known by now that he seems destined not to go beyond this stage in his political career.

He was in public service at the Bank of Ghana and got roped into the NPP's kind of rogue politics to be used for purposes that he is slavishly serving. In effect, Dr. Bawumia is not a politician but a public servant. That explains why he talks "by heart".

Unlike him, John Mahama began his political career from the grassroots and rose to become a Minister, Vice president, and President of Ghana. As a former President, he knows more than the political neophyte parading as Dr. Bawumia does. Can Dr. Bawumia see the difference and behave properly?

And for the records, let it be known that John Dramani Mahama is the first Ghanaian politician to have risen through the ranks to become the President. The only former Vice President to become the President of Ghana!! And he didn't do so through subterfuge but because he worked hard for it.

Of course, monkeys play by size. As a Vice President, not everything about governance is available to Dr. Bawumia. The fount of authority/President has the hang of things, much of which he won't reveal to his Vice President, especially in a situation where the "Yen Akanfuo" ideology reigns supreme in Akufo-Addo's agenda for governance. And Dr. Bawumia isn't exposed to inner-circle discussions and schemes (which the Akyim Mafia under Akufo-Addo has control over).

I urge the NDC to sustain this "Unity Walk" agenda and to use it to advantage.

So far, this version of the "Unity Walk" in Cape Coast has brought out many issues from the NDC camp that threaten the NPP administration's public image. Even as I expect more work to be done by the NDC beyond staging such "Unity Walks", I suppose that the event serves useful purposes and should be sustained. It should create the forum for frontal attacks on the lame-duck Akufo-Addo administration, especially if it will be used properly to countermand the treachery of the mass media lying in bed with the NPP.

I have been monitoring their misrepresentation of the "pigs" analogy made by ex-President Mahama and how they've shamefully eaten back their own vomit!!

More of those, folks. And the occasion should be used for party-building as well and pinpointed damnation of the clueless Bawumia and Akufo-Addo administration. Only then will they feel the pinch.

I shall return…
